During Covid times I started experimenting with cooking after watching too many tiktoks on this, I decided to try cooking Tteokbokki myself. It’s a quite simple recipe, but everyone I have cooked it for has fallen in love with it. If you can’t handle spice as much, half the gochujang, so it’s not too spicy.
Ingredients (for 2 people):
- 500 grams of rice cakes (bought at your local Asian supermarket)
- 2 tbs of gochujang
- 2 tbs of sugar
- 1 tbs of soy sauce
- 1 ts of sesame oil
- 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
- Enough water to cover the rice cakes (depends on the size of the pan)
- Green onion
- 1 mozzarella
- Mushroom of choice (extra addition)
- Noodles (extra addition)
Instructions:
1. Wash the rice cakes
2. Cover the bottom of the pan in a layer of water. Stir to combine and bring to a boil.
3. In the meantime add the gochujang, sugar, soy sauce, and minced garlic
4. Once it is boiling, bring down to a simmer.
5. Add the rice cakes. There is not a set amount of time to cook them. Cook until they are chewy and soft. The following steps you can perform in the meantime.
6. Add the spring onions and other toppings of choice.
7. Let the water boil off until a thick sauce is created that sticks to the rice cakes.
8. Add the mozzarella right before serving and enjoy some cheesiness!
