On Monday, May 8th, the symposium titled “Psychology Applied to the Modern World: Different Perspectives on the Field of Marketing and Economics” took place, organised by the Network Committee. It was a night full of informative presentations about a variety of topics within the field of marketing and economics. Trudelies opened the night with a presentation about her many years of experience as a Brand Strategist at several companies. She was then followed by Lisa, who told us about the differences between the consumer and business focus within companies, mainly underlining the importance of User Experience.
The break in between was accompanied by a lovely dinner, where participants and lecturers alike could feast on a wonderful Mediterranean buffet and some drinks to go along with it. When returning to the lecture hall, Jeroen took to the stage to tell us about the wonders of social advertising and his part in the social media advertising for American Express, using his awareness of brand identity and conformity. The final speaker was a more academically focused presentation by Steven Sweldens, who took a more theoretical approach presenting his views on branding and consumer behavior. The professor spoke of the theories and principles of psychology that underline success in marketing and branding.
The night ended with closing drinks, where everyone came together to chat about the topics that have been discussed over the night and make connections with each other. A fitting conclusion to a networking event.
